To cap my trip to the International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago earlier this month, a few more favorites:
1. Skoy cloth in Brady Bunch brights.
About the size [when dry] of a luncheon napkin, it comes in sherbet-y shades like strawberry and lemon. Basically, it takes the place of all the paper towels we waste. Designed to work over and over again in the time you go through a roll of Bounty, and beyond.
"Skoy is Swedish for 'just for fun,'" said the energetic woman demonstrating the Skoy's strengths. Don't know if cleaning the tuna oil off my kitchen floor can qualify as fun, but okay--convince me.
"Woah, is that a rip-off of the ShamWow?" asked my teen, who watches the ShamWow guy on TV with her friends.
Four-pack, $8.99.
2. Kitchen gadgets with Dr. Seuss sensibility.
Wouldn't the fellow who dreamed up all those funny creatures and wacky contraptions for storybooks have loved the Cuisipro Peanut Butter & Jelly Spreader for $10 [one end is purple, one tan, so you don't mix up the two] or the soon-to-be-released Cupcake Stuffer [about $20]? The latter drew a lot of interest at the Cuisipro booth. [For a review of the world's best filled cupcakes, check my post called "Gone Cupcake Hunting": http://insearchoftruthandbeauty.blogspot.com/2010/03/gone-cupcake-hunting.html.]
3. Perfume-bottle oil mister.
Well, at least it reminds me of a perfume bottle to hold your fine fragrance from Paris. But instead, it's a chic receptacle for your uber-expensive [or average grocery store] olive oils, even the ones you flavor yourself with herb sprigs. Oil Mister by Prepara, $19.95.
Full disclosure: My neighbor two houses away, Peter, is COO, Retail Division, for Cuisipro. My next-door neighbor, Dean, is with Prepara. I've shared holiday eggnog and iced vodkas with them at George and Lydia's annual neighborhood Christmas parties, and we've shoveled snow side by side in big blizzards. But I still think their products are cool, and want them for myself, not just for you. As far as the lady from Skoy cloth, I don't know her from Adam.
