I took a walk at the park with Sug, visited Dad at Van Dyk and drove to Clifton Commons to pick up Figgy and A., who had walked to Barnes & Noble after a movie.
Let me go in and see if there are any new cookbooks I have to have, I thought. And what to my wondering eyes should appear as soon as I walked in but a table promoting the B&N Nook reader. What caught my eye: The Kate Spade and Lilly Pulitzer Nook book covers. They were killing me. So beautiful. I never laid eyes on a Nook, and now I felt I had to have one, just so it could be well-dressed. Isn't that the point?
If you get a Nook just because you want to get a Lilly Pulitzer cover, that will be a giant waste of money, said A. from the back seat as we drove her home. Figgy was saying the same thing, and then that started a conversation about how everything is high-tech now, not in its organic state. Like the slender Nook vs. a good old book.
Point well taken. [But I do know Moey loves her Kindle, and the saleswoman told me that you save a substantial amount off the B&N price of books when you buy the Nook downloads instead.]
I gather I'm quite behind on learning about this collaboration between Lilly and B&N. But better late than never. I think it launched June 23. Yikes.
Someone you know may or may not have asked the Nook saleswoman to put one of the totes [above] aside with her name on it. It will be held for three days. It could be used to carry work folders, couldn't it? And see that zippered plastic bag? You could just as easily use that for M.A.C lip balm and a tube of sunscreen, couldn't you? Or tissues and money? Thought so.

Pink dreams.

Hi Alice. Joe ordered a Kindle for me for my birthday present (it didn't arrive yet). I think I am going to like it. It doesn't have the pretty Lilly covers like the ones you mention above, though. But I do like that it fits easily in a handbag and you can always have a book (or up to 3,500 books) with you at all times. Love, Linda
ReplyDeleteP.S. I agree that you don't need to buy the actual device to need the above tote!
Hi Lin. what a great birthday present! yay. i can't wait to hear how you like it. Happy Birthday to my sweet and talented and smart and compassionate cousin. love, alice
