The Sun Also Rises Over Newark Airport

H. had an ungodly early flight to Little Rock, Arkansas today. Since we usually drive each other to Newark Airport rather than spend about $70 one way, that meant I had to be up at the ungodly hour of 5:40 A.M.

We left by 6:09. We saw a stunning sunrise on our way to the airport, all purple and pink, lush as a soft peach. On my way home, I was daydreaming and almost crashed into a SYSCO truck in the next lane before the merge onto the Garden State Parkway North. I don't know what SYSCO is, but I know I was immediately grateful that I didn't get close enough to find out.

Tonight, I saw the sunset over Route 46 West while driving Figgy and friend to Willowbrook Mall for school shopping. They're old enough now for me to drop them there, go home and drive back again.

It was a busy day, tying up loose ends for a work deadline and stopping to see Dad and drop off his clean pants on my way back from the airport [7:15 A.M.] and on my way to the mall, with Figgy and pal [6:21 P.M.] I remember the precise times b/c there's a notebook for signing in. As though someone might sneak into Van Dyk Manor and stealthily walk off with a vanilla Dixie cup or an adult-size diaper.

All sarcasm aside, I really like the place. The staff seems caring, kind and competent, and it is so great to have Dad right in Montclair.

Tired now. Good night. Peace.

  1. How nice to be able to appreciate the sky in the midst of all the busy-ness. And how VERY nice to have your dad close by and make seeing him an easy and frequent part of your life. Summer is great, but here's to new beginnings and easier routines!

  2. Hi Nan. Thank you for the note. There have been many beautiful sunrises and sunsets this summer. I never saw so many before, but I think it's b/c we live in the condo and there's a big space of sky in front and behind, no houses, and also b/c I've been driving so much. It definitely is wonderful to have Dad right in town. Things are not so easy for him but I feel he is being taken care of well. My sis and her husband are going today and I think I will pop over with Sugar, who acts like she owns my Dad. i hope your boy is doing well at college...and your other children too. :) alice

  3. ...and here's to near misses on busy roads. Glad you are okay. Also very happy to hear that Uncle John is in a good place, and nearby, too! I also love sunrises. I do get the opportunity to see them a little more frequently than you, though, as I have to get up at around 5:00 every morning to get Joey started on his day. Have a great day! Love, Linda
