Been working very hard today. Writing an article for Greenwich [CT.] Magazine about "Light a Fire" honorees--people nominated by their peers because they are outstanding volunteers. Ten separate profiles. It involved a lot of interviews. Lots of notes.
These people are amazing. They help hospice patients, schoolkids, low-income women, injured wildlife. They give back and give back and give back.
There is a lesson to be learned for a material girl like me. Although on that note, I must say that wearing nice accessories and cardigan with skirt did help me work more efficiently today.
Also had to zip over to Bernardsville, NJ to tour a house I'll be writing about for Asp1re Magazine. It was built in the 1800s and has rough-hewn, exposed beams. It was absolutely incredible. Selling for three million plus. The decorating, the colors--amazing. The comforts--breakfast room, huge [clean] laundry room, huge glass-door fridge, lovely big bedrooms, terraces and patios, even a little doggy door. [Doesn't Sug deserve one too?] Pantries and cubbies and cabinets everywhere, so you could be really organized. Wine cellar. Safe for jewels. Wet bars. Giant flat-screen TV for movie night. Luxe closet for a zillion pairs of shoes. Flawless white freestanding bathtub for long scented soaks. Live-in housekeeper. Cool, cool fireplaces.
In my dreams.

the house sounds to die for! Even though it was so over the top, did you get any ideas you can incorporate in your renovation? When we did the kitchen, we moved a stackable washer/dryer from the parlor floor up to what was once a little nursery/then art room/then office. We made a small laundry room out of it. Nothing magazine-ready, but the few shelves and cubbies we built in there and the little folding drying rack that hangs on the wall from Ikea has made it one of my favorite places in the house!
ReplyDeleteKim, i love your laundry room idea.....think i may have picked up some ideas by osmosis from touring these beautiful homes but not sure...when we go back home our washer/dryer still in dreary basement, have to find a way to cheer that up.....love putting wash out in fresh air on wood drying rack....love to your family. alice
