Christmas Cookies

I love metal cookie cutters, sprinkles and sugars. My favorite two cutters--a Christmas tree and small Santa's boot--belonged to my mother. It's kind of hard to convey that it's Santa's boot*, but it is. I try to add a white fur icing cuff, but don't always have time. Image from familyfabulous.wordpress.com.
Check out the link below from the blog Girl with Spoon--I love the charming photo and the tips [and the name of the blog]. Carolyn is a friend of my niece, Leah. They're both smart, stylish, gorgeous young New Yorkers, and I enjoy rubbing elbows with them whenever I can--like the time Leah invited me, H. and Figgy for a rooftop brunch one warm Saturday.

Carolyn is from California and Leah is from Maine. Having grown up right near NYC, I'm always in awe of young people who bravely travel far to be there.

I've even garnered some lip gloss tips from them [involving a brand Whole Foods carries].

I will soon post my butter cookie recipe here, too. It's a good one and I've made it every year since high school.

Love, Alice

*Among questions I would like to be able to ask my Mom: What are the secrets to a happy marriage? How did you weather our teenage years? And why do you have a Santa's boot cookie cutter? Where did you get it? Sometimes when I include those cookies on a tray, people have asked if they're supposed to be cowboy boots from Texas. No. I can't recall my Mom ever making cutout cookies, but she sure liked it when I started to.

  1. Hi Alice,

You are so sweet! It's so nice to be reminded that I can be brave - sometimes the world gets overwhelming and I lose perspective, and it means so much to remember that it's good to take risks now and then! And thanks for the nice comment on GWS. I'm really looking forward to seeing your sugar cookie recipe!

    Love,
    Carolyn
