20 Years

A wedding cake is a sweet fairy-tale finish to the day--
all swags and roses, tender crumb and rich filling.
But life is not a fairy tale.
Lovely image from www.weddingcake.onsugar.com.
Today is our 20th wedding anniversary. I sit typing before a pitcher of pale pink sweetheart roses with baby's breath and white tiger lilies.

We clinked champagne* flutes in the bar section of the Highlawn Pavilion after 9:30 P.M. H. phoned ahead to order some food before the kitchen closed. We shared smoked salmon, salad and a cheese plate--and a special dessert with a little pitcher of banana sauce, ice cream and dark chocolate. H. brought a photo album for us to look at--starting with both of our baby pictures and childhoods, and ending with us together.

So much behind us, so much to come. In 1991, we were packed for two weeks! in Hawaii. No way we could have looked into a crystal ball and seen it all. No way we can peer in now and see the rest. But we can hope and pray and do and be our very best. Some tough stuff, but we can take baby steps or giant steps, as our life mandates. When we walk together, it's easier.

Good night.
