The Westchester

My travels have taken me to White Plains this week, in well-heeled Westchester County, New York. To my surprise, I found myself face to face with The Westchester, a mall I'd heard about but never seen. Sis told me about lunching there at Neiman Marcus with her friend, where they had the famous hot popovers and a lovely meal while models walked around to show the latest styles. I want to go! Fine food and fashion, the perfect pairing.

The mall does house the crème de la crème--Tory Burch, Lilly Pulitzer, Coach, Michael Kors--and that's just the tippy top of the iceberg. I got Figgy a cozy, pretty, strawberry-ice-cream-pink Lilly fleece jacket that was deeply discounted, and that made me happy. They didn't have it in my size [XL] but did have hers [XS]. Sometimes, life is unfair. ;) Yet that's the beauty of having a daughter--I often get as much [or more] pleasure out of buying something for her as I do buying something for me. It's been that way since I'd zip over to Baby Gap on 57th Street during lunch hour from work to scoop up little pants and dresses. It gave me such a charge, such joy. Maybe I was at work and she was at home, but I was doing what I do best for her.

Did I mention that you have to pay to park at that upscale mall? I come from mall country--New Jersey--and have never heard of that! This was $3 for zero to two hours. Yikes.

BTW, not to be materialistic or anything, but now have been to SIX Tory stores, in this order:
  1. Meatpacking district, NYC
  2. Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT
  3. Short Hills Mall, Short Hills, NJ
  4. Woodbury Common Premium Outlets [!!!], Central Valley, NY
  5. Americana Manhasset Mall, Manhasset, NY
  6. The Westchester, White Plains, NY
....and Tory Janes--a cute shoe store in my town [Montclair]--carries Tory shoes, too, if I need a trend-watching fix. I like worshipping at the altar of Tory.

Breathing it in, just breathing it in, that's all. Did not buy anything Tory today. But I do love some of the shoes in Tory's latest line.

Too tired and sad to write much more. But I hope to pick up the slack tomorrow.

Good night.
