Our neighbor Lisa cooked up the idea of a Memorial Day barbecue, and our neighbors Peter and Sally offered up their yard, chairs and giant Weber charcoal grill. Everyone brought something. It was really relaxing and fun. Ping-pong, drinks, laughs, burgers, Peter's delicious pulled pork and pot of grilled onions. Little kids splashing in an inflatable pool. Figgy and her friend Emily came by, too. The kids roped Fig into a game of tag later.
I made the three-layer Love Goddess Chocolate Cake by Vosges--bought the mix a couple of months ago @ Bergdorf Goodman. Frosted it with homemade chocolate ganache and whipped cream, snuck a little raspberry jam between the top and second layer, and topped the whole affair with a Rio Samba rose. Pretty pricey [$12 for the mix, and I also used 1.5 pints organic heavy cream, a little confectioners sugar, 1.5 sticks butter, three eggs, vanilla extract and 12 oz. chocolate]. But very dark, very moist, very nice. And I love Vosges boutique treats! This was the perfect occasion to use my Vosges mix. And I really enjoyed the process this morning, beaters whirring, chocolate melting, cream thickening--even if I didn't let my ganache set long enough, and the top layer slid off in the fridge. I scooped it up and put it back on. The whipped cream on top was forgiving.
H. put up the A.C. in our room, thank God.
Good night.

I hunted it down at Bergdorf Goodman's 7th floor chocolate alcove-- Seventh Heaven, for sure. |
