Christmas Cheer

Susan had her annual party tonight...so lovely. She always wears a beautiful dress--tonight's was black satin with a halter neckline, accessorized with a pearl necklace and shiny red pumps--and her mom, Alice, wears a floor-length holiday skirt, festive and pretty. The table is always laden with Brie, and quiche, and wine. Tonight, flames blazed in the outdoor fire pit* and many of us gathered round it, looking up at the starry sky and out at the Manhattan skyline.

The gathering is always on a December Saturday, and every year except one, H. was booked to work at a holiday party, so I've had to go solo. Since Susan did a Friday this year, H. was free. It was really nice to have him there. Going by myself gets old.

Tonight there was stollen, and a big baked ham and red candles flickering. Yes, the Christmas season is officially here.

  1. I've got an outdoor fire pit. I find I use it only a couple of times a year, but it's really fun.
