Fresh Air & Texas BBQ

Crape Myrtle Allée* @ Dallas Arboretum today. Photo from my iPhone.
Today we went to the Dallas Arboretum and to Hard Eight BBQ in Coppell. At the first, we saw dogwood, cherry blossoms, pansies, tulips, azaleas, holly bushes, daisies and more. It made me eager to do my summer gardening. At the second, we had fabulous brisket, ribs, chicken, baked potatoes and coleslaw. The brisket was so tender, the BBQ sauce just right.

I guess the one thing that surprised me was when the young lady working there asked me if I wanted bread. But it was Wonder-style [though not Wonder brand] white slices, so I said no. It seemed wrong to combine authentic Texas BBQ with airy supermarket bread. I'm sure I just don't get the true BBQ religion. Susie said later people like the soft slices to mop up the sauce or make a sandwich. I also sampled the cold sweet tea [a bit too sweet for me] and noticed little cups of cornbread salad but didn't try it.

Then we sat by the pool at our hotel this evening, just lounging and talking in the breeze. The weather was beautiful. Moey got us two little bottles of white wine from the hotel's closet convenience shop.

Our friend Susie has spoiled us, driving us all over to so many great places. Tomorrow, we fly away home, with happy memories in our pockets. What a warm Texas welcome our friend gave us.

*Per Webster's online....Allée: a walkway lined with trees or tall shrubs. The signs said: Crape myrtle allee. Honoring God, family and friends. Peggy Black Braecklein. I say Thank you, Peggy. What a beautiful gift.
