Mother Nature's Pearls

Clam and sea urchin shells, found before the tide turned--fished out of bay at around 6 P.M. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013.
Queen Anne's Lace by the water. Reminds me of my mother, who was named Anne, and the lacy white flowers she showed me when walking home from Nauset Light Beach on Cape Cod.
Guess I shouldn't have gone ahead and had the cappuccino when the waitress said they only had regular, not decaf. I've been up since 3 A.M. It's now 5:12 A.M. and the sun is up over the bay. Oh well, lesson learned.

Went back to the Belfast Co-op today! It's been over a year, b/c we went to Florida instead of Maine this past Christmas. I loved being back there, combing the shelves. Got some cranberry-orange-honey goat cheese from Sunset Acres Farm & Dairy in Brooksville; a single, perfectly dense espresso brownie from Let Them Eat Cake; and a cookbook.

The books below have made our vacation so far. H. and I love to read. Figgy has been reading H.'s dog-eared paperback copy of Anna Karenina, which I never read.
On sale at Williams-Sonoma. Has excellent recipes for easy clam sauce; ethereal-looking Boston Cream Pie; and other fabulous things. My friend Barbara was into this Canal House series years ago but this is my first foray. Did I mention that Figgy is vegan again? Pain in butt--no eggs, butter, milk, fish, meat, cheese.....but she is switching back again on her birthday, August 24, so I may make Boston Cream Pie then.

Delicious sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.
Treasure from Belfast Co-op. Excellent recipes for pesto, salad dressing, biscuits, cobbler, more....
H. has been eating this book up. It sounds fascinating.

  1. I loooooove your Maine posts! I want to go so badly. We're hoping to make it there in the next couple of years.

Are you enjoying Revenge Wears Prada? I liked the original. I guess I'm a little jealous of the author, though ... she's probably no more talented than most of the people we worked with, but had the guts, good luck and timing to make a mint off her NYC magazine experience. And, she's tall, skinny and blonde! ;)

  2. Hi Eileen....thank you for this note. I really hope you go. I highly recommend these Wonderview Cottages...and if you pay cash, between you and me, you might get a better price. I want to note that they are rustic, but you can't beat the location. Young families staying at the ones around us. You might want to bring your own sheets but up to you. Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen though not all have microwaves...very, very nice. Bathrooms kind of old, but.....anyway, i am enjoying the book. it's a real page-turner. Yes, i guess i'm also kind of jealous of the author......hope you're having a great summer Eileen love alice
