My First Lunar New Year Party

My friends Pats and Heidi--most of us wore some red for the new year. Pats and Heidi are even more beautiful than this picture shows. It was close to midnight.
For the year of the horse, the Kims got this awesome ice luge/horse sculpture--for doing shots.
Sarah, our mod, superfit friend from boot camp, and her husband, Rich, threw a Lunar New Year Party tonight. They have three adorable little girls [one just about to turn a year old] and a beautiful home in Montclair, decorated for the occasion with red paper lanterns and outfitted with a special-order ice sculpture luge.

I never knew what a luge was until another boot camp party; suffice it to say that tonight, Rich enthusiastically poured small rivers of liquor down the horse's head and it dripped out of its nostrils and into your mouth.

If we sound like a bunch of wild party animals, well....we're not so bad. Someone nicknamed Rich the pusher; he's charming and good-looking and has a knack for convincing people to step up to the luge. But without my H. there--who convinced me to try it with him once at the last party--I grabbed my friend Eric's arm, and he did it with me. [H. back from London tomorrow; Punch back tomorrow, too.]

I've never been a big drinker, but this was the first time I had fig vodka--the little that dripped into my mouth. It was so tasty that I later had some poured over ice. And then I tried the coffee-flavored tequila over ice. And then....that was it.

We danced, colored lights flickered, we laughed. The table was spread with huge bowls of excellent food: dumplings, noodles, chicken, rice. It was fizzy and fun to see my friends. I get such a kick out of them and am grateful to know them.

Now, good night.
