Sending Word Bouquet to Hospital

My cousin--the blonde, bubbly girl a few years my senior--is pretty sick in the hospital a couple hours away, in South Jersey. As a girl, I stood in awe of her giant stuffed animals, perfectly made bed and the carrot spice Bundt cake she once made. And from the sidelines, I quietly observed her sensitive feelings, the flip side of her upbeat personality. In adulthood, I've taken pride in knowing such a capable nurse and fun-filled person.

It seems trivial tonight to blog about lipstick or TV shows in the face of that. The hospital can be a lonely, sterile, scary, frustrating, powerless, cold, boring and/or noisy place--machines beeping, roommates calling out--even for nurses and doctors who end up in the patient bed rather than beside it. I hope and pray she will be okay. Feel better, Judi.

Good night.

  1. On behalf of Dut, thank you for the beautiful post. All the things you said are true. I will be leaving for the hospital in a little while (morning ICU hours start @ 11) and I will give you an update. On the bright side, L. went over later in the day yesterday and said that Dut seemed a little better from the time that she arrived to the time she left. Fingers crossed and prayers said. Love to you all. Lin

  4. Hey, Al. It's amazing what a few liters of fluid and IV antibiotics can do. Judi was soooo much better today. Still in ICU, though.

Thank you for your well wishes, Kim.
