Today was an early dismissal day from Montclair public schools, so Punchy was off the bus by 2:45 instead of 4:10. For the second week in a row, H. is traveling. Last week he was in Indianapolis for several days and this week, it's Nashville. So I've been on my own.
Punchy played a lot with Rowan, rode bikes with him some and hung out a little with Hannah, a kind middle schooler up the block [whose dog Punchy and Rowan also love to play with].
At about 6:15, Punchy and I headed to Bartlett's Greenhouses & Florist in Clifton. My friends run the place, and we've only become close friends since Punchy came to live here in August 2013. They open their arms and hearts to us.
I brought my downtrodden, wrought-iron planter to be lined with fresh green and filled with Lilly Pulitzer candy colors. I brought my sorry soul, my fretting and fearful spirit for a lift.
Sun or shade? Nancy asked.
Sun.
What colors?
These. I pointed to my Lilly V-neck tee. Bright pink, orange, blue. Do you have blue?
Yes we do. Can you pick it up Monday?
Yes I could. Marietta, Nancy, Marta, Michael and Skip* were busy with a bar mitzvah, proms and a funeral. Beautiful flowers for those occasions, I can tell you that.
I also left with a flat of snapdragons in mixed colors to plant. H. and I have always loved snaps, ever since we were newlyweds and planted our first window boxes on the apartment fire escape.
Good night to you.

- Walked to and from hair-color appointment in town--50 minutes.
- Gray gone, hair blown.
- Bought Kashi cereal for more fiber. At dr. appt. yesterday, doctor advised more fiber, naming Kashi specifically, and more walking for better cholesterol and triglyceride numbers.
- Bartlett's!!!!!
- Prayer.
- Loved talking to my neighbor Mary, a retired grandmother. We passed on the sidewalk when she was walking into town and I was walking back, at about 2:15. I think Mary has been living on the block for maybe 50 years?
- Weeded around our veggies and flowers. That always feels good.
- Reached out to Lisa, who shared great wisdom.
*Marietta, Nancy and Skip are siblings.Young Marta and Michael are like family.
