Nice architecture.
Drove into NYC this evening for the Picnic by Design event to benefit DIFFA [Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS]. I was on the press list. It was held on West Street, across from the Hudson River. Enjoyed the pretty view and the creative picnic baskets, which you could bid for in a silent auction. [Starting bids, $100.] Sampled octupus salad from STK, a chocolate ball and small brownie square from FIKA [the art of the Swedish coffee break], cupcake buttons from Baked by Melissa and a glass of Chardonnay from Oyster Bay New Zealand. At one of the bars, I saw this sign:
1.2 million people are living with HIV in the U.S.
1 in 5 of those infected are unaware of this status.
Fashionwise, I liked the man wearing Nantucket Reds pants and the two guys I saw in cotton shirts printed in that small, trendy navy and white check. I was the woman in nearly teetering white sandals with a right heel tap that needed fixing and a summer hairdo that longed for a blow-dry. My accessories were a notebook Pats gave me for my birthday and a blue Bic pen.
Parked for free on Bethune Street, and later for free again on 11th Avenue, when I popped by to visit my niece, Florida Orange. She and Figgy live in an apartment that's just a block away from Gotham West Market on 11th Avenue. It's so cool! I got beans and rice with chicken, and Florida told me to sample the Ample Hills Creamery flavor called The Munchies [per website, Pretzel-infused ice cream with clusters of Ritz crackers, potato chips, pretzels and mini M&Ms]. Brooklyn-made! So good! May splurge on a scoop next time.
I love New York at night.

The original Ample Hills is within walking distance to my house. We love it! Our favorites--salt caramel crack and the sweet as honey!
ReplyDeleteWow! Walking distance! I like its quirky, colorful vibe and the cookbook, which I resisted months ago at Williams-Sonoma but now possibly regret...xo
