Vermont: A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words

Yesterday’s post was words. Now some images.

For at least the first two hours of my drive home, the roads sliced through mountains, staggering in their height and beauty. A doe crossed my path, a turkey dawdled by the roadside, a huge hawk flew overhead. The evergreens were lovely, and everything was snow-topped. I saw an old log cabin. But none of that is here, since I had to hold onto the steering wheel on those winding, rolling roads.

Pictures from before that;

Above, the Stowe mountaintop and a single dark chocolate meringue cookie from Artisan Coffee. Vermont is a true challenge for sugar lovers like me. Everywhere you turn, maple cream, Ben & Jerry’s, berry jams, muffins, fudge, thick peanut butter brownies, dark chocolate, hand-stirred mocha lattes. So hard! The lovely young woman at Artisan told me this very good cookie was baked by Emily [sp], who sells her wares at the farmer’s market. I had that cookie instead of lunch. #eatlocal

I love those orange rocking chairs in the upscale hotel lobby. Most guests are well to do and I saw one Grandma watching 2 preschoolers and a nanny with 3 young siblings in her care. Parents not in sight. I assume they were skiiing, shopping, swimming, napping, in the village or at the spa. Not judging. I’m really not. There are fun activities for kids there, too, such as ski lessons and free s’mores by the fire pit under a winter sky. I want to see about taking Punchy there on a day pass to ski in March or April. Figgy stayed with me for a night there once years ago when I was writing about it. Lap of luxuryStylish Astis suede mittens, bags made from real Swiss army blankets, pretty hats--all in First Alpine Chair Co. shop on mountaintop. Me with Meg, then Greg with Meg. They just celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.

Enjoy your day. For details on skiing, lodging and shop, visit stowe.com.

  1. Wow, full winter. Glad you had fun! Yes, will see Nan tomorrow and her crew, which is a fun bunch. Peter and I had quiet, domestic moms, and just love Nan’s mom, who is a dynamo. (Tho making Nan insane) And HS is sweet and funny, and I just love hearing what the kids are up to. Also a few friends. And baby Will, I am just going to squeeze that boy. Happy prep day!
