Spending Spike

Punchy's moving-up ceremony was today! It's been a mini whirlwind. We went out for lunch with some of her friends and their parents to a Japanese place in town. Dan had to scurry back to work at the library on his deadline but Fig and her dear friend Boaty 🛶 joined us.

Even though the students "moved up" and brought their books home from their lockers, the last day of school isn't until Wednesday, June 26. Dan, P and I are driving up to Maine tomorrow for our nephew's high school graduation celebration. We will be there four nights, driving back on Tuesday so that Punch can attend the last day of school....momentous. Dan found a great AIRBNB, an apartment in an historic 1840s house that is a walk from downtown Belfast. And it has A.C.! Fig is staying behind with Sug, and working over the weekend.

I love getting a blowout before we go to Maine but the weather is just plain swampy. I cancelled the 9 a.m. appt. I had for this morning.

$ MONEY SPENT OUT OF POCKET

Wednesday, June 19
  • Punchy got off the schoolbus at 4 and asked if she could please get acrylic nails for her graduation. She has never gotten them before, nor have I. But her birth mom has--and they look pretty. Punch enlisted the bus aide, Miss Chrissy, to tell me about the wish for acrylics. I said ok. But I had no idea it would take so long and cost so much. This won't be an ongoing occurrence, especially not with gymnastics and soccer, etc. But Punch feels like a princess. Cost was $50 plus $10 for gel? Punch added--I said she would have to give me cash from her pink jewelry box for that, and she did. With tip, I spent $61. Happy graduation, Punchy.
  • Uber to 8 a.m. yoga class. So glad I made it. $10.30.
  • Uber back home, $10.07.
  • Cold brew, sandwich and ciabatta loaf from Montclair Bread Co., $17.
  • Uber from home to ATM [to deposit checks] and then nail salon, plus tip, $14.18.
  • Uber home from nail salon, $9.30.
  • La Couronne, this fabulous old-school Italian restaurant I have never tried. The chicken and the pasta were soooo good, $45.96 plus $2 tip at pickup, $47.96. It was after 7 and I was too hot and tired to cook.

  1. No books for four days? That seems like a lot of dead time. Anyway, so long elementary school!

    1. Yes, they must be playing board games or watching movies. We had several delayed school openings this year due to ice/snow so I guess we have to make our quota. Up here in Maine, the schools start about a week before Montclair and are out for the summer. I'm sorry I didn't answer the email yet re dates to visit, but I will do so. :) Alice
