I picked up my paycheck yesterday and was able to get things I had been wanting. Expenses for Friday and Saturday [today] include:
- Little Daisy Bake Shop, small coffee with soy milk to bring to Figgy at work, plus tip, $3.
- Williams-Sonoma, 20 percent off holiday sale prices, beautiful forest pine-scented candles, winter berry dish soap/cleaning spray/liquid hand soap set, Bar Keeper's Friend soft cleanser [$3.96] and Jacobsen Salt Co. [from Oregon] set of eight vials of precious salts for baking and finishing foods, from Pink Himalayan to Hawaiian Sea Salt, $79.75 total bill. Oh, and I forgot--that spend included a jar of Organic Turkey Gravy Base--originally $14.95, now $6.99. I figure I can make turkey breast and mashed potatoes for Punch and me......
- Parking meter, 75 cents.
- High-end dry cleaner/tailor, got my old Burberry jacket fixed up, $65.
- Pret a Manger, $2.06.
- Junior's, $8.75.
- MetroCard refill, $6.
- Clean Market, soft, reusable, washable black cotton tote that grants me 10 percent off all purchases. I.love.it. I was on the waiting list to get one. Discount applies to Goop beauty products, foods and beverages, etc. The bag, with tax, was $21.78. I then used my discount to get Figgy two good-helping-sized Daily Dose Chocolate Avocado Mousse cups, one very thin tahini chocolate chunk cookie, plus tip, $25. Then for Goop silky Body Luminizer, Hu cacao almonds, Sweet Laurel cookbook, a Keep Cup to reuse for coffee and a healthy salad with chicken to bring home, $118.92.
- Just Salad, yay me, $11.52.
- CVS, 4 boxes cereal on sale, with $3 coupon, $10.22.
- Matcha drink for Punch, $3.
- Whole Foods, big bill. Brought Punch with me, innocently enough, to get breakfast sandwiches, which were not very good--I hate those fluffy precut eggs, and the roll and cheese were bad, too. Ugh. Punch liked hers okay but $3.99 each. I want to outline my purchases, which totaled $201.22, because I got a lot of good proteins, etc:
- Local coffee, Fair Mountain Coffee Roasters organic Mocha Java beans from Atlantic Highlands, NJ, but expensive, $13.99.
- 1.03 lb. wild caught salmon fillet, $16.47.
- 2 amply sized containers of shrimp with cocktail sauce, $20.
- 1 lb. smoked salmon, $20.
- Large container sea salt crackers, $4.99.
- Bob's Red Mill organic coconut flour, sale, $4.49. [Bought this and almond flour, coconut milk yogurt and pink salts, above, to try a healthy recipe soon from Sweet Laurel cookbook, also above.]
- Bob's Red Mill almond flour, $3 off, so $8.99.
- Coconut milk yogurt, large-ish size, $10.99.
- Hu no refined sugar dark mint bar, $6.99.
- Grey Poupon coarse country mustard, $3.99.
- Container Callebaut dark chocolate chips, $7.19.
- 6-pack brioche rolls for Punch, $4.99.
- Luxury, .33 lb. wedge Humboldt Fog cheese from California, $9.24.
- Spicy tuna bowl for Punch and me to share, $11.99.
- Healthy breakfast sausage links x 2, $10.
- Dozen organic eggs in brown shells, $3.99.
- Pint half and half, $2.29.
- 2 packs vegan sausages, the kind Dan and Fig like, $10.
- 4 small Nounos Greek yogurts at $2.39 each, so $9.56.
- 1/2 lb. ball local smoked mozzarella, $5.19.
- Large container fresh fruit, $6.23.
I have highlighted in yellow the things that were an out-and-out overpriced waste of money. Hindsight, as they say.

Whole Foods does create a different scale. I don’tgo Often, butI always do contemplate purchases that usually would not usually cross my mind. I went yesterday to get sherry vinegar and spent $65...
ReplyDeleteBewarw the movie Waves. It’s good, but I was unprepared and got wrecked. It Is a about a high schooler who makes bad decisions one night and ruins his life, and then how his family puts themselves together.Lordy, it was hard.

Hi Liz. Exactly...go in for sherry vinegar and come out $65 later. It is kind of a foodie's playland. Have a good day, you, Peter, Will and John [John is your other son, right?}--and your sweet dog. Love Alice
