Curbside Pickup*

Today I took advantage of curbside pickup at one of my favorite spots, Joyist.

I ordered the Kacy, a ginger and greens blend named for the stylish, kind, smart, health-minded blonde owner, who is a young mother in town. Customers cannot stay in the Joyist space to sit and work on their laptops for the time being, due to the coronavirus pandemic, but you can order online/on phone app and drive by or pop in to get your healthy food. Pretty smart. You have to pay ahead online, so no credit cards or cash changes hands And if you add the code STAYSAFE, you get 10 percent off. I got a boost of raw honey and the "I'm stressed" magic formula.

Then I popped into Saunders Hardware, right next to Joyist, where I bought a big bag of Dot's Pretzels.

I had never heard of them until they were sampling them [in little individual cups] at Saunders on Saturday. They were delicious.

But at $11.99 per big bag plus tax, I had to just say no.

Then I wished all weekend that I had them, especially hunkered down like this. The pretzels are made in North Dakota.

I tasted them at the Hardware Show, the man at Saunders said. I had to order them.

When I got home with them, Dan said, What's that you got?

Pretzels from the hardware store.

Pretzels from the hardware store?

Yes, they are really good.

Then I told him to wait while I wiped the outside of the bag with a mango-hibiscus Lysol spray on a paper towel. I figured many customers may have picked up and put down the bag.

He tore it open ahead of me, then I did my mandatory hygiene anyway.

Between the Kacy drink and too many pretzels, I think I can safely say I've already eaten dinner.

Have a good evening.

TCOY
  1. Walked from about 1:25 pm to 3 pm with Dan and Sug, then met up with Julie and her son, Rowan. [Dan had to go back to the house to do a phone interview for an article he is working on.] The weather was nice. We also ran into my friend Jean, pushing her baby grandson in a stroller.
  2. Ate some healthy foods: Ezekiel toast, tomato, avocado.
$ MONEY SPENT OUT OF POCKET

  • Saunders Hardware, Dot's Pretzels, Clorox cleaning spray, Pine-Sol disinfecting cleaner, $23.43.
  • Grocery money I forgot to add yesterday [Figgy shopped for us]: $100.
Total spend: $136.48.
Ongoing monthly spend as of March 16: $1,311.52.
avg daily spend: $81.97.

*Curbside pickup somehow connotes carhops and drive-through Starbucks cafes--frothy, whipped-cream-topped treats and women on roller skates delivering burgers to trays attached to cars. But this is not Happy Days.Nope, we're just trying to stay alive and minimize the spread of a deadly virus. Giant sigh..

  1. Hoping to get groceries today, going after rush hour and hoping there has been restocking. Will turn around if it is too crowded, and will wear gloves while inside. Now that Y closed, one of instructors holding outside boot camp tomorrow and Friday. If not too cold, I will go.
Worried about server son in FL.
    Good luck!
