(Please note, this name might bring to mind the tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook school in December 2012 but that is in Newton, Connecticut--this is a pretty ocean beach in New Jersey. I pray for those who lost little children--or school staffers--in Connecticut that nightmare day.)
The beach was beautiful. The breeze was so lovely. We got a little burned, lulled by that cool caress.
Dan, Skipper and I met Figgy and two friends there. All five of them went fully in but I was lazy. Since others were swimming like mermaids (or merman) with Skip, I was off the hook. I only went in up to my knees. Planted my chair near the water’s edge and read a style guide a friend passed on to me: What Would Jackie Do?
Good night.

A lovely holiday. I confess, I have to be in the mood to go swimming, and I often am not (in the mood).
ReplyDeleteRight, Nan? I wonder if you will go in up to your ankles at least in Maine...so far from home, putting self in that water confirms the journey....have a great time. Love Alice
DeleteLove the beach, and so happy you went!
ReplyDeleteI who for years swam 30 minutes in the morning was utterly exhausted by 6 laps at a friend's pOol. Strike one. Someone took a pic of Will and me sitting on the couch and reading and I could not appreciate the cuteness for my complete shock at looking like jabba the Hutt. Strike two. My friend and I usually take a prebreakfast walk, and her son wanted to upgrade to a hike. I made about 500 yards on steep path and had to turn back, calling Will to retrieve mme. Strike 3. The no exercise party is over. I will walk every day for 30 minutes no matter what. How completely I have fallen out of fitness should not be a surprise but it was, it was.

Liz, I really like your writing style. I know, my fitness has really fallen off, too. Let’s face it, it took a lot of energy to be sure we had staples during that long pandemic--lightbulbs, cereal, milk, chicken. We all couch-potatoed a bit too much. I love that you will walk 30 min per day. And, I’m saying this truthfully: You look great in the Will photo. Hiking is hella hard (breathing). And six laps in a pool, at least you did do those. I’m glad you are up and running. Love Alice
