That’s the first line of the 1964 Phil Ochs song "Celia."
Today, Dan, Skipper and I drove about 1.5 hours from Belfast to Bar Harbor, where our close NYC friends Celia and Greg were on vacation for four days.
We have been to Bar Harbor many times over the years, but this day felt like a gift.
We had a delicious lunch involving lobster, shrimp, warm rolls, and, to close Skippy’s meal, a slice of rich fudge cake (don’t get me started, I don’t eat that anymore). Then we walked over the big sand bar to the island and hurried back just as the tide was turning--our feet got wet. We walked with a flow of people. Such fun.
Then excellent iced cold brew with milk at Acadia Perk, near the village green.
We let Skip get a pair of Bar Harbor sweatpants and a sweatshirt. We started on the expansively beautiful Cliff Walk, one of my favorite walks anywhere, but couldn’t go far because our old Sugar dog had been left in Belfast since 10 a.m.
I love Bar Harbor so much. I loved seeing Skippy walk on the sand bar. Any time she is out in fresh air, moving and experiencing life instead of staring at a screen, is a gold cup win. I/we always felt it was important to buoy Figgy up with nature, too.
It heals, embraces, soothes, awes and most definitely inspires with rustic, rugged, unspoiled beauty.
Good night, Bar Harbor.

Such a wonderful visit with the three of you! Florida, Maine...where shall we meet next?
ReplyDeleteMore Maine fun! We didn’t do the sandbar walk because I was nervous about getting the timing wrong and getting more than my feet wet! But you are so right about getting those young folks outside. There is nothing better!
ReplyDeleteXoxoxo,
Nan
And exposed to art. When, as is often the case these days, humans are just awful, we need to be reminded of the creatives around us who create beauty.it also encourages young people to find their own expression.
ReplyDeleteHappy to see this fun post.
