I hadn’t been to Mass for a while and it felt good to be back on the second Sunday of Advent. The special wreath was on the altar, with three purple candles--one for each of the first three Sundays leading up to Christmas. Today, two of them were lit. On December 19–the fourth and final Sunday before Christmas Day, all three purple tapers will be glowing and then the pink, the prettiest of all, will join the crowd. It’s a beautiful way to light up winter.
Rituals are comforting.
