Words Under Lock & Key

The diary I got for our Figgy girl.
Hey, I'll take what I can get. And my minor triumph for today--in addition to the fact that I finally roused myself to meet a work deadline--is what I spotted in Figgy's sleek black tote bag, the one she carries everywhere [except to school, which requires a backpack].

I had taken her to Barnes & Noble because she loves to sit there and read. [It's the modern version of the old Dixon Homestead Library in Dumont, the shrine to reading that my friends and I visited, where we presented our light blue library cards, magic tickets to adventure via the written word.]

And there it was in the tote bag...the Lilly Pulitzer It's All About Me Diary I bought her Friday at Leapin' Lizards, the Lilly shop in Ridgewood [I was in the area for a work assignment]. It has a little metal padlock and two dainty, doll-sized keys--just like my little green diary from Lorraine. Although God knows there's nothing doll-like about pouring out one's feelings honestly. I told her to write her thoughts down--the ugly ones, the light ones, all of them.

Go, Figgy, go. I hope my sighting means you may actually be writing in it?

Good night.
