| A wedge of Jonathan and Nina's cheese. |
Tonight was the first part of the wake. Tomorrow, two more sessions, then funeral Saturday morning. The body in the casket doesn't really look like Dad--kind of waxy, and visible makeup. But it was good to see friends who braved the elements to get there. It makes you feel good to know that your loved one was loved by others.
One nice thing today: At the Princeton Public Library, when I was wandering around kind of aimlessly [rootless now, no parents, not so different from homeless], I happened upon the indoor farmers market in the Community Room. And there was Jonathan White, H.'s friend from the Free School of Bergen County [the hippie high school they attended]. He and his wife, Nina, have a popular farm called Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse, in Milford, NJ. I bought a loaf of their hearty Medieval Rye Levain with Kalamata Olives [made with whole wheat, whole rye and whole oats, and excellent] and a wedge of the rich Jean-Louis cheese. H. loves these, and was glad to get them--and Jonathan generously cut me a big piece of both at a friend's price. We had them for a quick dinner before hurrying to the funeral home. Jonathan has a big talent, and a big heart. He sells at Union Square, too.
Bread and cheese, a bit of sound nourishment for an emotionally depleted day.

Good night.

I know what you mean about aimless wandering. Nothing seems real, or right.
ReplyDeleteDid you read on the cowsoutside website that they have an autistic 18 year old son? They want to build a future for him through the farm and bakery. It's such a nice aspect of their enterprise.
So, take care. Here's to getting through another day, Al. Love, Lin
Hi Lin. Yes, we know their son. I was hoping you would see that part. love, al
