Christmas Dinner with the Family

Tonight, H., Figgy and I drove into NYC for dinner with Sis, Don, and Don's son Charles, who is in from California, and my brother Will and his pretty blonde fashionista wife, Kelly. We do this every Christmastime. It was really nice. We went to Brio, an Italian restaurant on Broadway @ 21st Street. It is so balmy out, though--doesn't feel like Christmas. We enjoyed our pastas and polenta [yum, ordered it in honor of my grandmother Rosie, who used to make polenta] and drinks and had a lot of laughs.

To Pop, Will said, raising his glass. He was a good man. And we clinked glass against glass, reaching, smiling, laughing, leaning toward one another and remembering our Dad. It was a nice opposite to earlier in the day, when I started sobbing as I was filling the bathtub and couldn't stop, thinking about getting Christmas trees with Dad, driving around to look at colorful lights with him [he especially liked to show me the house over near the Garden State Farms store in New Milford], and just plain talking to him. I miss him so.

Good night.

TCOY
  1. Boot camp in the dome--a lot of sprints.
  2. Walked Sug around block once.
  3. Salon blowout.
  4. Ate mindfully--for at least part of the day.

  1. Hi, Alice. It's so nice to continue your Christmas NYC dinner tradition – even more so now that such an important person is no longer here. A remote toast to Uncle John from here in South Jersey, too; I just raised my coffee cup. Remember the good times. He and his brothers would want that. Love, Lin
