Tell Me a Story

Many cookbooks--like this one--are part memoir, too.

Elly and I taught our memoir class @ Toni's Kitchen today. Elly thought to bring the Proust Questionnaire as a writing prompt. It's so interesting the way a one-word answer to some of those questions can tell you chapters about someone's life. I brought this cookbook, and read the part about the author's great aunt coming to visit and making hand apple pies.

Again, I'm glad we have this soup kitchen in town, especially when you consider that two and three streets above there are many a Montclair mansion high up on a hill. I'm also proud of my friend Anne, who's doing a great job as Toni's outreach director.
