Let Me Lead You Safely on the Icy Tundra

Rowan, Punch and Maddy, who is Patsy and Andy's daughter.

They had so much fun!
I remember those windows of time.....the older child in the neighborhood playing with the younger one. Michael Komlo was my next-door neighbor, and sometimes, we'd play at Bedford Park and I remember telling him a whole story about King Midas, who had some wishes. He wished that everything he touched would turn to gold, but that didn't work out very well because he'd pick up an apple to eat it and it would turn to gold, and if he touched a family member, they'd turn to gold. We were standing by the warped blue wood merry-go-around, near the flagpole, and young Michael had me tell him the story over again. I often wonder where Michael is now.....I'm in touch with his mother on Facebook, so should find out....

But Maddy--good, spirited Maddy, shown above--is the fifth grader who today took the time to sled down the hill on our block over and over again with Rowan and Punch, two kindergartners. This is the golden thread in happy childhood memories. This is what makes them magical and treasured.

Thank you, sweet Maddy.

Good night.
