Daybreak Cottage Checkout at Noon

Even a little writing nook.
Beautiful beds are topped with handmade quilts by Linda Horne from Naples, Maine.

It's so hard to say good bye to Daybreak, our Migis Lodge cottage, but of course Figgy, H.'s mom, his four brothers and others await at the opposite end of our day, about 2 hours north in Belfast!

I do not want to leave:
  • The huge, comfy king-size bed with lofty quilt. The mattress is magically cozy.
  • The main lodge porch that overlooks the lake. Last night, I sipped a Maine Blueberry Lemonade with local vodka and enjoyed that cheese tray again.
  • The deep bathtub. Punchy and I each took nice bubble baths. The tub is much deeper than the one at home. I almost fell asleep in it.
  • The wood cottage furniture, hand-hewn and rustic, with plenty of drawers to put everything out of sight.
  • The warm shower and minty shampoo and conditioner.
  • The screened windows.
  • The fireplace, set for us every day with tinder and logs.
  • The big ice bucket, filled twice a day by one of the cabin boys.
  • The family feeling of playing bingo in the Boulders cottage last night from 8:30 to 10.
  • The Adventure Camp for Punchy. It's every day from 12 to 5, and your child can do part or all of it. Today we have to leave the property by 3 to get Sug and go north but Punch will be able to do the first three hours: paracord bracelet making; lunch cookout; boat ride to the candy store.
  • Canoeing! We three just went out on the lake.
  • The family-owned feeling and impeccable attention to detail. Tim Porta, the owner, and his son, handsome Jed, are true Mainers. Yesterday morning when I met Tim, he said he would love to talk but had to go help some fellow who needed the fishing pole part he was holding. Today, Tim boated by when we were canoeing. After a friendly hello, he cupped his hands around his mouth to call out You should be wearing life jackets. Punchy had one on, but we didn't.
  • The traditions. The Migis Mule; the lobster bake; island cookout; breakfast muffins; excellent coffee. I hear that Saturday night buffet fans missed the liver pâté and Jell-O mold when it wasn't in its usual place.
