Looking Skyward
Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.
--English language nursery rhyme published in late 19th Century
It comforts me to know that people have been wishing on the stars for such a long time. I am not alone. Think of all of the children and mothers and fathers and lovers who have looked to that sparkle in the sky for solace and hope. No matter that the clouds were shifting rapidly tonight after the afternoon storm and the single star I saw may have been a plane light. Still counts.
