Got a pink lily and pink hyacinth for the cemetery, did laundry, mopped floor with Mr. Clean, shopped for groceries, peeled potatoes with H. and mashed them, took garbage out. Made a very complicated Ina Garten square lemon tart--H.'s request--that involved homemade dough and a cooked pudding-y filling made with 1 stick butter, 4 eggs, 3 egg yolks, 1 1/2 cups sugar, tons of finely grated lemon peel and 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice, with a pinch of salt. Tomorrow, I will ask Figgy to please arrange fresh raspberries in rows on top, and then I'll serve it with whipped cream.
H. did so much Easter shopping and prep, too. To be thrifty, he went to three different stores for best prices on various things. I appreciate that.
But now, at 12:52 A.M., it's either do my nails or don't. And in Florida, I made a promise to take care of my nails. So I think I will force myself to stay up a little longer. This is a detour I took long ago, as a newlywed--a gradual decision to let meals look good for others while my personal appearance suffered. Inch by inch, I want to change that. I want to get back on the right road.
Happy Easter.
