Good Night, Cos Cob

H., Figgy and I drove to Stamford for a birthday dinner for Don--and then they drove home in Dad's old white car, and I'm staying over one night to help Sis pack up for the move. She and Don are leaving Cos Cob and setting up housekeeping in Stamford.....

Last year, I gave Don a bday gift certificate for homemade apple tarts, because he loves them. I never came through. But this morning, I made a peach & apricot pie with streusel topping......and delivered it tonight. I checked with Sis first; it's just the sweet fruit is so juicy, fragrant, ripe and ready, and in season......apples seem like a slice of autumn in mid-July.

I love family birthday parties like this b/c we're all together, around a table, laughing, listening and sharing food. Clinking glasses, passing the bread basket, spending time face to face. Making a wish on the new year Don unwrapped.....
