Good Night, Chocolate Avenue

Dan came with us--and the drive, slicing through Pennsylvania farmland near sunset, was pretty. But the "check engine" light is back on in our 2002 Toyota Camry. And Dan was cranky, not necessarily a surprise; he has been up since 3 a.m. Nashville time. He couldn’t sleep. And he leaves for Cuba next Monday on an exciting reporting assignment.

We saw fawns, horses, cows, cornfields, silos, barns. I thought of the old movie "Witness" w Harrison Ford.

It is 9:51 p.m. and we all brushed our teeth and are in bed in the Howard Johnson by Wyndham hotel on Chocolate Avenue. Punch and I plan to ride the Cocoa Coaster tomorrow.

We drove by the Hotel Hershey [since 1933] and it looked fancy. It is very expensive. It was maybe $450 per night in the summer for a single room and even with the media rate offered after that, very luxury-priced.

We also passed the Milton Hershey School.

We’re lucky we can leave Sugar home w Figgy. No pets allowed in this hotel.

Good night.

  1. Got to my support group.
  2. Ordered a salad for dinner. [But had a few spoonfuls of Punch’s dessert--not worth it.]
  3. Brought and used my Trish McEvoy Gentle Cleanser--and two petite scented gardenia candles + matches, a trick I learned years ago from my friend Candy [when we rented hotel rooms for Eileen and Pete’s wedding].  I read online that the rooms here smell musty, and they do--but I had already booked ours.

  1. That shirt looks great on Dan. Happy the drive was scenic. Paul Newman and Harrison Ford my earliest crushes, love Witness. Ate chocolate at a party last night and heard Peter play, fun Saturday.

    1. Hi Liz! Thank you. I love that shirt 👔 and dan isn’t crazy about it; I got it on sale for him at Bloomingdale’s. What does Peter play? Sounds fun!

  2. He’s primarily a rhythm and blues guitarist, but also plays bass and some drums, and sings. His regular guy to get together with moved last fall, and now he gets together with some other guys, but they don’t have the same taste. Anyway, music is a constant, playing with or for other people, more rare.

Congrats on navigating chocolate land with minimal damage!
