Tonight, The Sound of Music was playing under the open sky at the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens on Upper Mountain Avenue.
I had lost track of the date--but then, after driving Fig and friend to the movies, I was lying on the couch with Sug at about 10 P.M. and heard Edelweiss wafting over the houses and through my windows.
The screening was part of the Montclair International Film Festival. I've always loved that movie, so much so that I own it. And when I traveled to Europe with Moey and friends on a whirlwind tour after college graduation, we saw a special screening in Salzburg.
I dashed out without a sweater, it was cold, I didn't take a chair and H. is in California, so I just watched for a while. Felt a little funny to be alone, but still lovely to stand among the iris beds, watch parents and children curled up on the grass, and young girls running down the hill, blankets floating like capes behind them. I wished H., Figgy, Punch and Sis were there. [Sis loves irises, and comes once a year. Dad grew and loved irises, too.]
Thank you, Rodgers and Hammerstein:
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever.
Good night.

- Boot camp in the park.
- Salon blowout.
- Walked Sug around block once.
- Calmly spoke my mind to Figgy about some things she did that upset me and that did not respect my work boundaries.
- Resisted urge to stop @ Six Brothers Diner for cheesecake to go when tiredly driving back and forth on Route 46 for movie dropoff and pickup. Felt like I wanted an event, and cheesecake would have been an event.
