Another kickin' production...and I went because Lev, MHS freshman and son of my boot camp friend Helen, is in it. Fig's friends Olivia and Kyle are on the tech crew, her friend Ari's sister Emma had a role and by now, I recognize a lot of the big stars in the senior class. Plus, buzz was that this show was great, and they had to turn people away at the door.
No joke.
What talent. I really marvel at these kids. And I also marvel at the people who wrote "Hairspray" in the first place...what a brilliant story....book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. I want to get the CD....."You Can't Stop the Beat" is so happy, and so are a lot of the other songs....some excerpts:
Cause you can't stop
The motion of the ocean
Or the sun in the sky
You can wonder if you wanna
But i never ask why
You can't stop a river
As it rushes to the sea
You can try and stop the hands of time
But ya know it just can't be
Montclair theater kids, go forth and conquer the world. You don't know me, but I admire you. I hope to see your names up in lights.
TCOY
- Support group.
- Iced coffee.
- Made lavender shortbread, which was creative and fun, except I have to figure a way not to eat so many samples when I bake.
- Dinner and drinks @ Elly's and Fleming's before the show.
