Mangia!

Our book group usually meets in our homes--we take turns. But Jeanne suggested Bivio Pizza in nearby Little Falls for tonight. The cozy spot is run by her friends Tomas and Jackie Colao.

My words can't properly flatter this ethereal pizza....I wish I could pop through the screen and feed you a slice.

The dough was smoky and soft, tender, gently puffed...the mozzarella is made in house. The affair is slid into a wood-burning oven. Perfumed with garlic, strewn with basil leaves, carrying toppings like hearty sausage, eggplant, or sliced lemon, this is memorable pizza. Felt like we were in Naples, Italy. Our favorite: The Bianca, with Bufala mozzarella, Parmigiano Reggiano, extra-virgin olive oil,  fresh garlic, fresh basil, sea salt. It's the marriage of the sea salt and the lovingly handcrafted dough that really put the pie over the edge.

It's BYOB, so your bill won't go sky-high with vino you order. But leave room for a tiny cup of espresso and delicate slice of cheesecake, which we split. It was impossibly creamy, nestled in a nice thick graham cracker crust.

Grateful for a rustic, sumptuous meal among friends. Liked looking around the table at--and clinking glasses with--Julie, Anne Q., Anne M., Elly, Karen and Jeanne. [We missed Barbara.]

Oh, and we did talk about the book, too--The Burgess Boys, by Elizabeth Strout.

Good night.
