Tonight I met six women for drinks and Spicy Frito Misto at Halycon on Walnut Street in Montclair. I had the basil lemonade, with muddled vodka and fresh basil leaves. I'd recommend it.
We moms were on the Project Graduation committee....we had a big fundraiser to pay for the overnight alcohol- and drug-free event for the senior class on graduation night [next Wednesday].
Now it's almost here...but the best part about working on this project was getting to know the other moms. After Figgy's 13 years [counting kindergarten] in the public school system, I'd only met one of these women before. That's how big the Montclair school system is. And just as I made new friends when Fig was in kindergarten, and we sat in those tiny chairs on back to school night, I made new friends on the cusp of cap and gown time.
I was a little shy of going tonight but very glad I did....a lot of our feelings are the same....a sense of this time being bittersweet, a celebration, yet an ending, too....we talked about what streets we should stand on next Wednesday night to watch the parade of buses go by with our kids waving and cheering out the windows. How college will likely require extra-long twin bed sheets. How Felice's son is going to the University of Vermont [and there's great shopping in Burlington--Felice and I like talking about shopping in Montclair], Katie's son will be studying in Rochester, and Phil's daughter is heading to Kenyon in Ohio.
We'll have to keep in touch and support each other, Katie said as we walked to our cars.

- Morning seems so long ago--but did go to boot camp in the park.
- Weeded and hauled hedge clippings--H. and I cleaning up our lawn and garden. I like that he strung up pretty lights in the ravine behind our house for Figgy and friends post-prom tomorrow night.
- Deep conditioning treatment and haircut at Esthetica--won gift certificate at Project Graduation fundraiser. Felt pampered and renewed, and also, they sell Bobbi Brown makeup and fragrance there. Got a pan of glitter lip gloss.
