Make New Friends but Keep the Old

...one is silver and the other's gold, as every Girl Scout knows. We sang that so many times by the campfire.

Kim is gold and it was so good to see her. She's also H.'s friend--they were in a group of young freelance writers who met regularly. So he, too, was pleased as pudding that she was coming over.

It was a gift to catch up, reminisce, walk into town, share great salads and panini, talk about writing and our families...about the teens in our midst...and I loved that Kim met Punchy. We picked her up at school, went to the playground. Having Kim with us was like being with a special witness to our ordinary lives. She sat on a swing, a park bench, in the car with us.

Then my friend headed back to Brooklyn and we headed for the stables. Rich as rubies...good as gold. Good night.
