Petite chocolate truffle cake, no refined sugar, also vegan. Made in Maine by Mom's Munchies, 2-pack, $5.99.
Continuing my quest to kill sugar before it kills me--because I can't stop once I start, my moods swing and I get nasty and negative. Plus I pack on the pounds.
But, as on my August trip to the Cape, this Maine trip is my first to this place I love where indulging in sweet treats is not part of the plan.
That means sidestepping:
1. Let Them Eat Cake espresso brownies, made in Belfast.
2. Sue Cakes cupcakes and whoopie pies, also made here.
3. Local Maine ice cream.
4. The dark chocolate cherry cookies at Chase's Daily.
5. Glossy, midnight-dark chocolate-covered espresso beans.
6. Everything at the Red Barn Baking Co. on the highway through Lincolnville. H.'s brother Pat told me about it and I had to pull in today when I spotted it. Punch chose a slice of pumpkin bread. I had a VERY HARD time not getting a big chocolate espresso or chocolate ginger cookie--with their crackled, sugar-strewn tops--or large pumpkin chocolate chip whoopie pie. But I managed to resist.
7. Fair trade chocolate.
8. Hot cocoa with whipped cream.
What I DID happen upon at the Belfast Co-op was the delicious dark treat shown above. A pack of 2 small chocolate truffle "cakes" from Mom's Munchies in Freeport, Maine. No refined sugar; contains cashew butter, unsweetened dark chocolate, agave nectar, etc. Served cold and delicious. Would love to know how to make them. Couldn't believe how good it was when I broke through the pure chocolate top and tasted that first lovin' spoonful.
Wish I could blog more but I'm tired. Couldn't fall asleep until after 3 a.m., up at 8:35. H. took Punchy to a movie and I'm going to read and sleep.
Want to write about Mount Battie! But must recharge my battery.
Good night.
