Fell off Wagon, Hopping Right Back on

Chilly Monday, working at my desk, doin' my best.

Then: A headache. An I WANT CHOCOLATE NOW/I REQUIRE CHOCOLATE NOW headache. Kind of pounding. First, I thought I needed lunch, with protein. Had a chorizo chicken sausage, a little leftover pasta with my homemade pesto, some provolone.

Back to my desk, still wanting. No chocolate in vicinity. Decided to make coffee in French press with coarse ground Sparrow Blend that I brought H. from the Hot Chocolate Sparrow on Cape Cod. Tasted good, but chocolate still on my mind.

Fig said she'd get Punch at bus stop at 4, so I could run to the post office, send out some letters. P.O. is right next to Starbucks. I rationalized that it would be fine to get a two-pack of dark chocolate graham crackers and eat one, share the other w the girls. Then, at the register, saw a three-pack of peppermint chocolate-covered Oreos, which I also figured I would share. Figgy had one, but Punch was slow on the uptake, so I ate hers.

Then, after going to Petco with the girls and eating a late dinner, decided I deserved to watch more of the "Gilmore Girls" marathon while H. read to Punchy. But the sugar monster rushed right to the couch w. me. I tore through the 7.6 oz box of individually wrapped Ferrara Torrone almond honey nougat candy, a soft Italian treat that our grandma used to bring us kids at Christmas. I bought the Torrone to give my brother Will and my Sis for holiday treat. Gift of Christmas Past.

Texted Sis. Forgive yourself, she texted back. And I will. Tomorrow is another day and I hope I can avoid the slippery slope, the high, hard mountain of sugar. Substitutions are key. Holiday temptations, sigh....and it's not even December yet.

Good night.

  1. Those chocolate-covered peppermint oreo-like cookies... Trader Joe's has them, and so does Whole Foods. Mistakes were made, and I can feel the way it upsets my balance and leads towards a headache. I thought, "roast this cauliflower instead" but no...
