We left Pat & Martha’s by 11:30 a.m.--after home-brewed coffee and breakfast w Dan’s mother, two of his brothers, one nephew--and it’s 9:48 p.m. and we’re just passing signs for Westport, Connecticut, where Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward made their home.
This drive will take us more than 11 hours--and we can usually do it in about 8. It’s the Sunday of Fourth of July week and we got a flat tire and had to call AAA for roadside assistance about 5:30 p.m. We first learned of the flat when a motorcyclist pulled up next to Dan’s window on the highway to tell him. A lady driver also flagged us down. The Maine beauty is fading greatly in the rear-view mirrors. We are tired and cranky. Punch is asleep in the back seat.
Until tomorrow. I have to work productively and hope I can focus.
Also, it will be good to see Sugar and Figgy after a full week away.
Ouch, tough end to week. Understand the struggle to have as much vacation as possible, yet needing some transition. Good luck on Monday, power through!
