I got up at 6:30 a.m. to drive here to Sis’s calm condo in Connecticut ahead of the snowstorm. I parked the car just as the snowfall was getting heavy. On the way over, the swirls were light but I still felt I was driving through a pretty snow globe.
Didn’t pull out of my driveway until 8:39 because: shower, makeup, perfume, pack up CPAP, clothing, books etc. and also tried a couple times to sign up for vaccine appointment (new slots released daily at 8 a.m.) but no go.
Tired now. But the frosting looks so pretty on the trees, and the sunset was a lovely pink when Sis and I walked Buttercup.
Sis has been a paying Member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for years. She has been buffing my culture quotient ever since I started working in NYC after college in 1983 and she had an apartment on East 82nd Street.
Tomorrow, we are driving in for a 1 p.m. slot. We both miss the Met. We will be double masked and socially distanced. My Figgy thinks we shouldn’t go because it’s a recreational activity. I heard her but we are proceeding. (Dan has already been in during 2020 for masked visit with his friend, Dan, also a Member.)
We are craving culture. We plan to bring lunch and as far as eating afterward, it will be Monday in a snow-topped city--I heard all outdoor restaurant tents/bubbles were rolled up/removed for today so the streets could be plowed.
Even in healthy, rosy times, some restaurants are closed on Mondays.....so we don’t have high hopes in the pandemic, and do not want to eat inside. I plan to drive Sis back to Grand Central after the museum so she can catch her train, then I will drive back to Montclair. We might pick up something that is iconically New York, like corned beef on rye sandwiches from a diner.
Until tomorrow.
Oh, you will both SO enjoy the Met, after such a long time without our senses being stimulated that way! I visited two museums back in October with my boat partner and her husband, and it was such a treat! Because of restrictions, in some ways the lower crowd density will allow you to enjoy some parts even more. I look forward to your story!
ReplyDeleteYoung people can be so black-and-white in their thinking. I see everything in shades of grey. Enjoy!
