At the Movies: Sex and the City 2

I'd been wanting to see this for a while, and time was running out; had to catch it on the big screen. Saw it alone tonight when H. and Figgy were in another theater at the multiplex, taking in Splice, a sci-fi flick they were dying to see [not my cup of tea].

Figured this would be pure popcorn, and it was. I know it got awful reviews. It's not like I was a religious watcher of the TV series either, but I liked it when I caught it. I mostly wanted to see this because the sneak preview included a scene at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC, and because I like to track the fashion and style.

Turned out it was corny and campy but still bubbly and entertaining. My favorite parts:

1. Carrie's hair. It's pretty. I like the long loose curls [not in the wedding scene, when the curls are tighter and look wilder].
2. The evening gowns. Amazing eye of Patricia Field.
3. The look at life in the desert: the camels, the sand, the reference to mirages.
4. The fact that Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda each has her own personal butler--to steam hot milk with cinnamon in the dark of the night, mash yams for a facial, whatever. And the butlers have beautiful decorative jackets and impeccable manners.
5. The flight attendants' hot pink hats.
6. The black diamond Big gives Carrie.
7. The idea that the plot revolves around a writer.
8. The shoes. Of course. But not because I'd want them, just because I like to see the colors, the straps, the heel heights, to get a reference point.
9. Charlotte's ladlylike cardigan sweater in the last shopping scene.
10. When the women from Abu Dhabi disrobe to reveal vivid designer clothes under their traditional black garb.

Here's to frothy, fluffy dreams, and trips on a magic carpet.
