Nights in Blue Satin

Can't wait to slice through the country and get to New England again.
Tired. As is my wont, am up pushing on article deadlines before leaving on a trip. Spent tonight writing about a gorgeous blue satin Tiffany & Co. clutch with crystal clasp, timeless pearls [I want some], glittery gold Tory Burch ballerina flats and more.

Take Me Away
Figgy has off from school Thursday and Friday for annual November statewide teachers' conferences, so we're heading to Vermont after school tomorrow. My college roommate, Meg, and her husband, Greg,  live there. They married two years ago, and [due to the real estate market] still have both of their homes--Meg's in South Burlington and Greg's in Stowe. So Figgy and I will go to both. We're so lucky to have a Vermont destination to visit.

I really can't wait to see Vermont again...the leaves, the lake, the cows, the barns, the towns, the houses, the Cheddar, the milk, the Lake Champlain Chocolates. And most of all, the mountains. It will take over 5.5 hours to get there.

Figgy really wanted to go to Vermont over this break. I miss my Figgy, miss talking to her at great length, and usually, a long car trip gives us room to chat. She also wants to hike, but I will huff and puff behind her and Meg and Greg. Sug is coming with us, too! Greg's little Bichon, Bailey, is one dog she's not afraid of. She met her match. She once romped in a grassy green field with him, more than she has ever done with any other animal.

Me and My Girls [one freckled, one furry]
H. isn't coming. Things are crazy with the house, and all of the last-minute details. For example, we don't have a bed yet and we're moving next Friday. Ours got damaged when the tree fell onto the roof and we never replaced it. [State Farm put us in lovely AVE Clifton, in a  suite already chicly furnished, right down to the colander.] Due to waiting for our freelance checks, etc. etc., we held off. And the way it works is that you have to buy it first and then State Farm will reimburse you. So.....H. has been running ragged getting things in order. He spent hours with Figgy at IKEA but they finally ordered everything for her bedroom tonight.

He was also booked a while ago to work at a party on Saturday night [money we can't turn down] and has a planned reunion at a cheese farm with his high school friends on Sunday. [They all attended the Free School of Teaneck and classmate Jonathan and his wife Nina have three kids, great talents, a true work ethic and a really cool cheese farm. It's called Bobolink Dairy--the link is www.cowsoutside.com and they have a stand at the Union Square Greenmarket in NYC every Friday from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M.]

I say all of that about H. not going b/c it sometimes feels odd to travel without him. Sometimes it feels free--I won't lie--and sometimes it feels funny.

Must see Dad tomorrow, between dropping Fig at MHS and going to Boot Camp...and writing two more articles [but they're short, and fun--one about a wedding, one about St. Lucia].

Good night.
