H. Taps a Tale for Mayor Bloomberg

H. with the mayor last night.
In his double life as serious journalist/party entertainer, H. is hired to work at a lot of functions during the holiday season, writing 60-Second Novels--listening and storytelling, tapping out each personal tale on his manual typewriter. He's there along with handwriting analysts, balloon twisters, stilt walkers and others, depending on the scene. They're all there to make the party fun. Sometimes, he brings home a souvenir for Figgy and me--fancy candy, iced cookies, flashing pins, or a party hat, for instance. Sometimes, even a tip.

Tonight he brought home a colorful tale--delivered it via cell phone first. He was working at a party in the Brooklyn Navy Yard [where my Dad's brother, Al, worked] and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg was there! H. wrote his story. Someone is going to send him photos of him with the mayor and I hope to post here soon. I'm a fan of Mayor Bloomberg for his calm, no-nonsense style, his ease of speaking and the fact that I once saw him riding the subway with his aides on my commute home. Millionaire as Everyman indeed. I like him.

Good night.

  3. That will be this weekend. Buying food, taking chair, table and dish inventory, cleaning, etc. Our final count is 27 or 29. It's a lot of prep, but it's fun, too. Talk soon. Love, Lin

  4. Lin, I always have great admiration for couples who can throw big parties and entertain large groups at home. I mean it. H. and I get so stressed out and bicker and everything. We wait till the last minute, etc. We love our friends but it gets hard for us to work together and prepare. But you and Joe; Kim and Farhan; George and Lydia; Paige and Gary; Anne and Michael--these are friends who pull it off. I so admire that. It's not to be taken for granted. love, alice
