Bunch of Maine Wildflowers

My apologies--I  don't know who did this art.
We gathered the summer flowers, figuratively, from the side of the road and the town by the bay. My favorite picks:
  • Driving and listening to CDs, especially the one Figgy made, with a song called "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show and "Book of Love" by Peter Gabriel.
  • Walking around Belfast with Figgy and John*. Saw David*'s art, which is lovely, especially the painting in the center of town that transformed the outside of a building into a ship [S.S. Belfast], complete with anchor and porthole. And: so many pretty window boxes in town, spilling over with petunias and nasturtium.
  • Quick dip into the Belfast Co-op [logo above], the natural food store I love. Did a rapid sweep to size up what's new since I was here in December--of course, that includes garden seeds and summer produce. Bought quart of organic milk in glass bottle from Caldwell Family Farm in Turner, Maine.
  • Dinner @ John and Leah's farm table with Mike*. Leah made great fresh steamed zucchini and a big salad to go with the seafood paella my mother-in-law dropped off.
  • H., Fig and I saw the movie "Brave" at Mike and Therese's charming restored Colonial Theatre. It was really enchanting. On the walk home, we saw the Big Dipper and the North Star, and two beautiful white steeples against the small coastal town's night sky.
*H. has four Hurley brothers, in this age order from the top: John, Mike, Dave and Pat. The only one we didn't see today is Pat, and H.'s younger sister, Eileen.

TCOY
  1. Looked the other way when faced with candy bars, chocolate-dunked pretzels and cheesy cracker sandwiches @ rest stop in Kennebunkport. Got small bag plain pretzels for snack instead.
  2. A few short walks around Belfast.
  3. Ice water.
  4. Veggies. Please see meal by Leah, above.

  1. Ahh, that "Book of Love" is really beautiful, isn't it? Have a wonderful vacation.

Just to put a bee in your bonnet ... my college roommate, who worked in New York and Philly after graduation, just moved to Maine to work at a weekly newspaper. It can be done!
