My mother loved the beach, and the Cape, and passed that on to me. The waves and the air and walks in the sand. This is New York, I think, circa 1950? |
We've had four visitors from Florida with us since Friday/Saturday: H.'s cousin, her husband, their daughter, 19 [whom Figgy has always loved], and her boyfriend, 20. Our house is small, one bathroom, so it's crowded. [We've been going through towels, toothpaste, cereal and OJ pretty fast, and the young man has been sleeping on our living room couch.] So Sug and I are scooting to the Cape with our friends Anne and Nikki Thursday. H. and Figgy [and maybe Fig's friend] to follow on Saturday, and Anne's family arrives for their weekly house rental that day, too.
I have lots of loose ends to tie up tomorrow, but have started gathering my vacation provisions:
- creamy shave gel
- lip balm with SPF [for bike path and beach]
- new water bottle [ditto]
- two books
- some cute reusable kitchen containers, the better to keep foods in the Cape Cod kitchen
- marshmallows and chocolate, for seaside smores
- clean sheets and towels from last trip
- my pretty pink Lilly Pulitzer beach tote
- etc. etc.
TCOY
- Washed my face--and good tooth care.
- Taking care of details, meds, Rxs, etc.
- Private Benjamin appt. and legwork setting up others.
Glamour girl Aunt Ann... great picture. She was so young and beautiful – I like to remember people that way. Have a safe trip tomorrow and a good time as you recharge your batteries on Cape Cod. Love, Lin
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lin. I am missing you. Hope all is ok. It was so nice to see you all last week. let's really try for our plan next year when Joey is at camp--if you and Judi would like to. So as soon as you have the dates, whenever, even in the deep of winter, just let me know so i can tell Will. I am missing your blog posts, too. Love, al xooxo
ReplyDeleteThat's a great picture, Alice! Your mom was gorgeous! I can definitely see some of your features in that picture. Have a wonderful vacation!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo! A '50s beauty, for sure!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim and Eileen...thank you....one of the things I missed with my Mom dying when I was 20 is that I would love to have talked to her more about her girlhood, being a young woman, newlywed, chemist, mother, etc....but then, she could be reticent, so not sure how much she would have shared anyway.....love alice
