Rolling: "Argo" @ the Movies

Ben Affleck.
H. said I'd love "Argo," playing @ 9:45 P.M.

"I don't want to see a movie about the Iranian hostage crisis," I said flatly. I know I can be bratty, but also, that was a late start for a serious movie. Maybe OK for a popcorn flick...

"It's not about the Iranian hostage crisis. It's about this guy's plan to make it seem like they were making a Hollywood movie filmed in Iran, to then get six Americans out," he said.

But boy, was he right. One of the best movies I've ever seen, again because it's a true story and a great time capsule. Ben Affleck directs and stars--he is gorgeous and gifted. The close look at the Carter White House and Hollywood [with Alan Arkin] is brilliant.

And, I loved seeing the news footage from 1979/80 and the wide-collared shirts, goofy glasses, fat ties. I adored the tenacious attention to detail.

So good.

Good night.

  1. Dying to see this! We have plans next week for our anniversary! We already saw The Master. Eh. Didn't like it much. We liked The Perks of Being a Wallflower very much. I also want to see The Sessions. I love the fall when all the new, good movies are released!

Hi Kim....yes, i bet you will like this movie...it's pretty gripping and a great period piece....H. got kind of glazed over with The Master, felt it went on too long but I just thought the acting was rugged and brave...we just saw Wallflower tonight...engaging and troubling....am dying to see Diana Vreeland documentary next...love alice

  3. Yes, the acting in The Master was raw and phenomenal. Really balls-to-the-walls kind of stuff, but I wasn't sure why we were asked to witness this story. Wasn't sure what the point was. Interesting, though. Yes, Diana Vreeland doc sounds great, too! Must put on list!

Weren't the boys' acting in Wallflower really charistmatic, too?
