H. and Mother Nature Throw Me a Snowy Lifeline

It was one of those days where I had to fight to lift the blanket of depression. I went to boot camp, had a work call, etc. etc. But from the time I had to get Figgy up for school, I was cranky. Mad @ the world.

H. and Figgy called from the A&P in the afternoon to see what else we needed but I couldn't think beyond butter and flour. After that, our cars were snowed in at the end of our long driveway and will be until we dig out tomorrow. Later, while he was making pizza for Fig and her friends, H. said, I can't believe we don't have any candles! You should put on your boots and walk to the store for some. We lose power often during storms. We burned every candle we could get our hands on--tall tapers, tiny tea lights, short votives and big jars--to see our way through Sandy.

So I put on my sweatpants, L.L. Bean boots, long sweater, winter jacket, Burberry scarf, black gloves and topped it all off with the white hat my grandma Alice bought me at the Florence Shop in Bergenfield when I was in my twenties. I walked 20 minutes to the store and then walked back, red, gold and white candles in my canvas bag.

She helped. Mother Nature helped. My hat from my grandma helped. Every step I took in that fresh air helped.

I returned with a better attitude.

Good night.

  2. (Typo above so I deleted it.) Glad that you're feeling better. Sounds like the walk was better than any medicine :) We were lucky -- did not get more than an inch of snow so no digging out necessary. I know the storm was worse in northern NJ where you are. Have a great day. Love, Lin
