Who doesn't know what I'm talking aboutWho's never left home, who's never struck outTo find a dream and a life of their ownA place in the clouds, a foundation of stone
Many precede and many will followA young girl's dream no longer hollowIt takes the shape of a place out westBut what it holds for her, she hasn't guessed yet
She needs wide open spacesRoom to make her big mistakesShe needs new facesShe knows the high stakes
I love the Dixie Chicks, and just read that the band came together in Dallas, TX in 1989. "Wide Open Spaces" lyrics above. And it turns out that driving around Texas the past four days, that's what struck me. Such wide open spaces. Wide sky, wide skyline--by day and at sunset. You can tell somehow that you're in a sprawling state as you drive around, even if you stay within a 40-mile radius. The land--the horizon--seems endless.
Now we're back in New Jersey. I feel so lucky to have spent time with my gal pals in Texas.
Good night.

- Susie, Moey and I took a walk @ Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano, TX this morning. Cacti were growing in the grass. It was hot, hot but we walked to the top of the observation tower and felt a beautiful breeze.
- Read on plane.
- H. and I walked Sug around the block, back in a climate where I needed a sweater again.
