BTW, the one I posted on Dec. 23, "The Other Side of Karen," has brought some thought-provoking and wise comments around racial equality. It's an interesting conversation. I want to learn more about it. I want to not be racist.
Good night. Cheers to a happy, healthy new year.
Nice. After several years of forgetting or not bothering with stuff that may or may not have been still in the basement, I reached an accommodation between decluttering and decorating this year, by finally finding (or creating) places where stuff can stay but be accessible in the off seasons. And I accept a level of clutter for Christmas that I couldn’t live with full time. I got rid of a bunch of stuff I had hung onto because it was old even though I didn’t really like it. The pruned collection is more manageable, but the plan is to curate only some of it each year, differently, onto display or use.
ReplyDeleteWe had Spode Christmas serving plates when I was little,I do miss those, they got lost in a previous transition.
Xoxo
Hi Nan! "And I accept a level of clutter for Christmas that I couldn’t live with full time. I got rid of a bunch of stuff I had hung onto because it was old even though I didn’t really like it." Exactly, even tho stuff is old, and holds family history, you might have to part with it--in our case, when the tree topples over and ornaments crash (didn't happen this year with smaller, potted tree, which is great) or when Dan turns his back and I throw weird stuff from the Christmas cartons into the trash can. Possessions can get really heavy, can't they? Happy New Year again. Love Alice
DeleteHappy New Year, Alice! Good post, and we did not go full boogey either.. for us it was lights and fires. We went wo our fireplace for 3-4 years until we could afford to fix it, and now enjoy a lot. And tons of lights on tree on nantel, in window, in yard. I lost beby jesus -he wasn't in drawer I thought I put him when I set up creche, and Peter, who is not religious at all, has been giving me no end of grief. Like turnin g down the TV to holler, where are you baby Jesus, ?!? I'll find him when we take down the tree and put stuff away, but sample of bizarro pandemic Christmas. Also, I have same husband who declutters by shoving things in a box and stashing in corner. But he's cute. Hes beloved at the nail place I get my toes done because he draws hearts and kisses on the certificates he gives me, and they crack up when I turn them in. This Christmas he gave me one signed prince charming, that will go over big at the salon. Anyway, best wishes for joy and beauty in the new year!

Oh, Liz, that is so sweet and romantic. Prince Charming! I love it. And also LOL that he turns off the TV to call where are you Baby Jesus? hahaha Happy, healthy New Year to you and your family.
DeleteAlso, I gave troubkegettinto medium sometimes, so I read your post but didn't see the comments.
ReplyDeleteI think we all have put up with too much or noticed too little, and there are bad habits. In the new year, I am going to try to be more of an ally, and perceive things from the point of view of the person who is not the person I like or who is the most like me. We're all works in progress.

Hi Liz...."I am going to try to be more of an ally, and perceive things from the point of view of the person who is not the person I like or who is the most like me. We're all works in progress." That is definitely food for thought. Thank you. xo Alice. (PS Medium comments ("Responses") are a bit tricky to get a handle on, I found. It's the response bubble under the end of the article, and you click on it.
DeleteWhere are you baby Jesus. Almost snorted my coffee out on that one. LOL! I adore P.
ReplyDeleteKim, I know, that is hilarious!
